Last week on Threads, I came across a beautiful flower photo – posted by someone who was clearly upset. She had ordered the bouquet online but felt disappointed when it arrived. I didn’t read the full story, just took a screenshot with the spontaneous urge to turn her unpleasant experience into a small gift of kindness: a painting.
I meant to look for her later, but the post disappeared before I could save it. Over the holidays, I slowly finished the piece. And yesterday – thanks to this wonderful online community – I found her. We’ve already exchanged messages about sending the painting.
But there was an unexpected twist: some people pointed out that she might’ve overreacted about the flowers and suggested I should give the painting to the flower shop instead. Even the shop owner left a kind comment.
I thought about it.
Here’s what I believe: this painting was born from the wish to soften a harsh moment – not to take sides, not to judge right or wrong. Just a quiet offering, reminding us how sometimes, stepping back a little helps us hurt less – and maybe not hurt others either.
If she no longer wants the painting, fearing it might only remind her of a bad experience, I’ll offer it to the florist instead. But for now, the gift stays with the one it was meant for.
