Artist Statement
“A collector once asked me what inspired me to become an artist. I simply replied: I don’t need inspiration to be an artist; the act of painting itself is already so inspiring.” – Flora Do
I love soft, pastel colors and light-hearted poetry. To me, art is as natural as breathing. Whether I am painting, writing poems, or crafting stories, I never feel pressured. I’ve realized there is a way to create art without strain, without torment or suffering. While the creative process requires effort, experience, and knowledge, it is the joy of the work itself – a laborious but sparkling joy. That joy arises when we approach art with innocence, sincerity, and purity. No matter how much sweat we shed, what we ultimately feel is exhaustion, but never stress or psychological burden.
People often say that artists must experience pain and carry the weight of humanity’s suffering to create great works. While this is not untrue, there is a difference between understanding pain and becoming it. These two states are not just different – they are fundamentally opposite. Each artist chooses their own way to express this “pain.” For me, after everything we experience, achieve, and eventually release, what remains is the ability to fully feel our existence and find deep peace in each moment. This is what I aim to convey in my work -whether through paintings, poetry, or prose.
I invite you to step into my world, where I let life unfold in its most radiant moments. I believe that all of us, in our own way, are like flowers. We all carry the potential to bloom to our fullest, to reach our highest form of expression—whether or not we hold a paintbrush like I do. We are all artists. Even if you don’t paint, the moment you gaze upon a painting and feel moved by it, you are already expressing the artist within you.
In a poem I once wrote about spring, I said:
“A flower blooms not because someone waits for it.
A flower blooms because it is a flower.”
Like flowers, we should live by this principle—blooming fully, whether in a remote forest or on a rugged cliff, with or without an audience. In today’s world, “letting go” has become a buzzword, but few truly grasp it. Think of a flower blooming quietly in solitude. Whether in sunshine or rain, amidst rocks and soil, or with no one around to see it, the flower continues to bloom, undeterred and radiant. We must not let life’s storms or moments of neglect make us forget our own beauty or how to live like flowers.
In the end, my art carries a simple message. I hope you will feel it and enjoy it with me.
Thank you for visiting this space. I look forward to connecting with you, so that together, we may bloom like radiant flowers.
